BUEHNENKONZERTE

ORGAN ON STAGE

The Organ in the Stefaniensaal

As a festive backdrop, the façade of the Stefaniensaal Organ is certainly well known to the people of Graz - but what about the organ itself, how it works and how it sounds?

All those interested are cordially invited to get to know the “King of Instruments” in person at a stage concert in one of the most beautiful and traditional event halls in Graz.

The Stage Concert Format

Don't expect a classic concert setup where you sit in the hall and listen to the music played on stage.
Instead, this time you will be sitting on the stage together with the organist for an hour.

All our concerts involve an on-stage presentation in German and focus on just a few pieces of music at a time, giving you an insight into them from the musician's perspective.
There is something different to discover in every concert. You will learn e.g. about the background of a compositional form, about the structure of the organ and the sound of individual stops, about what precedes an organ concert and what happens directly at the console.

Intended as an inspiring break and a change from everyday life, the stage concerts in the Stefaniensaal always take place during the week, at 3 pm in the afternoon. Admission is half an hour before the concert begins - you have free choice of seats on stage, if required, there is additional seating on cushions.

This way you can get near the ‘king of instruments’ and enjoy the music up close!

Subscriptions

Each stage concert focuses on different masterpieces of organ literature, with a series of three to four concerts forming a thematic unit.

If you would like to attend such a complete cycle, you can purchase a subscription to the respective series.

PHANTASIEN

The organ is a musical instrument that inspires imagination.
Throughout the centuries, composers have entrusted it with “fantasies” of all kinds.

In the current series of stage concerts, the focus each time is on one such work entitled "Fantasia" by Johann Sebastian Bach - paired with music by Vierne, Reger or Rost.

Experience four centuries of fantastic organ music on selected afternoons in Graz, as always up close and personal!
