The toccata is a central musical form for virtuoso concert pieces on the organ.
From March to July 2025, the first stage concert series is entitled TOCCATA+ - each time a different one of the great toccata compositions by the ‘regent of the year’ Johann Sebastian Bach is the center of the programme, with a second ‘toccata’ by Charles-Marie Widor, Louis Vierne, Maurice Duruflé or SJ Hanke juxtaposed with it.
The four-part series thus spans an arc from the Baroque to the present day, whereby the gripping and virtuoso form of the toccata, especially when it is explained in an entertaining way as part of a stage concert and can be experienced directly on stage, conveys anew the centuries-old fascination for the largest and most magnificent musical instrument, which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart rightly described as the ‘king’ of all instruments.
